I Love Reuters’ Photographers Blog

I know I posted a link from these guys a couple of weeks ago, but this brief account by Reuters photographer Romeo Ranoco is what great photojournalism is all about. He hitched a ride on an air force helicopter after a ferry carrying 865 passengers capsized off Sibuyen Island in the central Philippines during Typhoon Fengshen last month.

In the climate of buyouts and layoffs, it’s basically heresy to ask people in the newsroom to take on extra work, but I bet Courant.com would get a lot of traffic if we started a similar blog. Usually our biggest draws online are our photo galleries, often of the ridiculous celebrity variety. Why not use visitors’ attraction to photos as a way to promote real journalism? Maybe set up a photographer behind-the-scenes blog and link to our coverage from there.
