Question: How many U.S. newsroom jobs have been cut so far in 2008?

Also in the world of technology and journalism, check out this video from NOVA about Hany Farid, a Dartmouth computer science professor who’s pioneering the field of digital forensics. His research builds software to detect manipulated photos. It’s mostly being used by the federal government right now, but Farid is now working with Adobe to bring similar software to the media and local law enforcement.
And finally, Wired throws out a pipe dream that Google buy the Associated Press, not the Gray Lady. Use the Internet like a wire service? Maybe. I’m not sure the original content exists at the time to make that a viable option. The vast majority of online content piggybacks on traditional media’s effort.
