Glad To Live In A Yellow State

How many people will be crossing the border sometime this weekend to buy fireworks? I’m pretty sure I’ve never been through South Carolina and not bought some. The National Council on Fireworks Safety estimates there are about 9,000 to 10,000 injuries a year from fireworks.

That sounds pretty low to me for something considered so freakishly dangerous.

After a little digging online, I’ve found per-year injury estimates of:

27,000 involved with gymnastics
37,000 from nail guns
110,000 from power tools
150,000 related to ladders
200,000 from yard and garden equipment
200,000 related to firearms
800,000 from dog bites which should require medical attention

Granted, balance beams and Labradors can’t explode fire into your face.
